9. The Third Order – Peasants

• Largest Social Group – Peasants formed the largest section of medieval European society and were responsible for agricultural production.

• Serfs – Serfs were bound to the manor and could not leave the estate without the permission of the lord.

• Economic Hardships – Most serfs lived in simple houses and depended entirely on agriculture for survival.
