- Nobility – The second order consisting of kings, lords and knights who owned land and exercised political and military power.

- Manorial Estate – A self-sufficient agricultural estate controlled by a feudal lord.
- Knight – A trained mounted soldier who served a lord in exchange for land.
- Tithe – One-tenth of the agricultural produce paid by peasants to the Church.
- Monastery – A religious institution where monks or nuns lived a disciplined life devoted to prayer, study and work.
- Guild – An association of merchants or craftsmen that regulated production, prices and quality of goods.
- Cathedral – A large church that became an important religious and urban centre.
- Black Death – The deadly bubonic plague that spread across Europe between 1347 and 1350.
