By the late nineteenth century, the world economy had become highly interconnected through trade, migration, and technological progress. However, global economic growth also faced serious challenges such as the spread of diseases, the First World War, and the Great Depression. These events greatly affected international trade and the lives of millions of people.

Rinderpest in Africa

Rinderpest was a deadly cattle disease that spread rapidly across Africa during the late nineteenth century.
