Quick Revising Notes
Chapter 8: Measurement of Time and Motion
Definitions:
Motion: Motion is the change in position of an object with respect to time.
Rest: An object is said to be at rest if it does not change its position with time.
Distance: Distance is the total length of the path covered by an object.
Time: Time is the duration in which an event occurs.
Speed: Speed is the distance travelled by an object in a unit time.
Uniform Motion: Uniform motion is when an object covers equal distances in equal intervals of time.
Non-uniform Motion: Non-uniform motion is when an object covers unequal distances in equal intervals of time.
Rectilinear Motion: Motion in a straight line is called rectilinear motion.
Circular Motion: Motion along a circular path is called circular motion.
Periodic Motion: Motion that repeats at regular intervals is called periodic motion.
Odometer: An odometer is a device used to measure the distance travelled by a vehicle.
Stopwatch: A stopwatch is a device used to measure short intervals of time.
Quick Revision Points:
- Motion is the change in position with time.
- Distance is the total path covered.
- Time helps measure duration of events.
- Speed = Distance ÷ Time.
- Uniform motion has constant speed.
- Non-uniform motion has changing speed.
- Rectilinear motion is straight-line motion.
- Circular motion follows a circular path.
- Periodic motion repeats at regular intervals.
- Odometer measures distance in vehicles.
- Stopwatch measures short time intervals.
