Use of carry on/go on 

 

1. Present tense:

Carry on/go on का शाब्दिक अर्थ है 'लगे रहना' | 

पहचान - इसके present के वाक्यों के अंत में 'ता रहता है', ती रहती है, ते रहते हैं, आदि लगा रहता है और past के वाक्यों के अंत में 'ता रहता था', ती रहती थी, ते रहते थे, आदि लगा रहता है | 

Present के उदाहरण: 

(i) वह खाती ही रहती है | 

(ii) मैं गाता रहता हूँ | 

(iii) तुम नाचती रहती हो | 

(iv) राधा बोलती रहती है | 

(v) हमलोग हँसते रहते है | 

Past के उदाहरण: 

(i) मैं सोता रहता था |

(ii) नदियाँ बहती रहती थी |

(iii) गायें चरती रहती थी |

(iv) हमलोग लड़ते रहते थे | 

Structure of sentence: 

Affirmative: 

Subject + carry/carries + on + V1 + ing + object. 

Example: 

She carries on eating. 

I carry on singing. 

You carry on dancing. 

Radha carries on speaking. 

We carry on laughing.

Negative: 

Subject + do/does + not + carry + on + V1 + ing + object. 

Example. 

She does not carry on eating. 

I do not carry on singing. 

You do not carry on dancing. 

Radha does not carry on speaking. 

We do not carry on laughing. 

Interrogative: 

Helping Verb: 

Do/Does + subject + carry on + V1 + ing + object ? 

Example: 

Does she carry on eating ? 

Do I carry on singing ? 

Do you carry on dancing ? 

Does Radha carry on speaking ? 

Do we carry on laughing ? 

Wh Family: 

Wh + do/does + subject + carry on + V1 + ing + object ? 

Example: 

Why does she carry on eating ? 

Why does I carry on singing ? 

Where do you carry on dancing ? 

Why does Radha carry on speaking ? 

Why do we carry on laughing ? 

2. Past tense: 

Structure of sentnce: 

I. Affirmative sentence:

Subject + carried + on + V1 + ing + obj. 

Examples : 

I carried on sleeping. 

He carried on talking. 

She carried on visiting Mumbai last year. 

We carried on reading novel. 

II. Negative sentence: 

Subject + did not + carry on +  V1 + ing + obj. 

Examples:

I did not carry on sleeping. 

He did not carry on talking. 

She did not carry on visiting Mumbai last year. 

We did not carry on reading novel. 

III. Interrogative sentence: 

Helping Verb:

Did + subject + carry on +  V1 + ing + obj ?

Examples: 

Did she carry on quarrelling with her relatives? 

Did Raju carry on plucking mangoes from garden ?

Did they carry on making a noise in the class ? 

Did you carry on selling your assets every year ?

WH-family: 

Wh + did + subject + carry on +  V1 + ing + obj ?

Examples: 

Why did you carry on teasing him ? 

When did she carry on fighting with you ? 

What did he carry on eating ? 

Why did they carry on going in the forest?
